What is Chufa?

Chufa is a root vegetable that is filled with minerals like iron, magnesium, and manganese.  It is also one of nature's best sources of fibre.  The ancient Egyptians used chufa as a baking ingredient and as part of their regular diet, dating as far back as 6000 years ago.  Ancient hieroglyphics show Egyptians using it to make cakes, with dates or honey being used as a sweetener.  Chufa has a sweet taste that blends well with our Canadian-grown ingredients like hemp seeds, maple syrup, flax, and oats. Amazingly, archaeologists have found chufa inside of the tombs of Pharaohs.
